Mixing it Up
At the first PUBLIC ART PARTY Mixer!
Hello and Happy Pride, Knicks, World Cup, last month of school, Stanley Cup, show openings, deadlines, and whatever other madness you are currently enjoying!
Despite all of these things and more, a lovely group of PUBLIC ART PARTYERS got together this Wednesday at Threes Brewing in Gowanus, where we hit all the above topics plus public art (of course), fabrication budgets, salsa dancing, sabbaticals, middle school, wind tunnel tests, music careers, and so much more. What a great and interesting group of people!

The purpose of the PUBLIC ART PARTY and this smaller mixer is to create a space where the public art community can get together to share wisdom, intel, jokes, recommendations, fun and friendship. As I always say, we don’t have natural meeting places, so we have to create them!
We have important lived experience to share. I like to refer to “whisper networks,” i.e. ways we can help each other avoid problems or handle complex situations, and also find opportunities and make the most of them. We need each other!

This smaller gathering was a hit, and we will plan more! Do you have a great bar in your hood? A studio or another place where we could gather? Please make suggestions, and even better: help me plan more welcoming and accessible mixers, and ensure we have a diverse crowd from all parts of the public art world.

Thanks to everyone who came, and…KNICKS IN FIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
