SAVE THE DATE: October 20th!

Get ready for the next PUBLIC ART PARTY...

You did it, folks! Thanks to wonderful people on this mailing list, we have an AWESOME venue for the next PUBLIC ART PARTY.

Please save Tuesday, October 20th for a panel and party at the Van Alen Institute in Gowanus, Brooklyn!

This location couldn’t be more perfect, as the Van Alen Institute has been a driving force behind community-led urban design since 1894. Their public space projects build unconventional coalitions of designers, local stakeholders, and city leaders, and include public art projects.

IMPORTANT: I’d love your input on the next panel! What would you like to discuss? Who do you want to hear from?

Some topics that interest me:

  • Trends in public art aesthetics: legibility, abstraction, identity, amusement, and more

  • Escaping the RFQ: guerilla projects and non-traditional art in public

  • How is public art meeting the political moment (or not)?

  • Who gets to define what “successful” public art is, does, looks like?

I know that a lot of artists want to learn how to get projects, but I feel like the panels should delve into critical issues we don’t often get to investigate as a community. What doesn’t get discussed, but should?

Please comment on the website or email me your ideas. Can’t wait to see you there!!
